It’s Portugal Day! Portugal Day is celebrated on the anniversary of the death of Luis de Camoes, who wrote an epic poem celebrating Portugal’s achievements throughout history. He also died in 1580 (almost four hundred years ago!), so I guess Portugal’s been slacking. So here, to honor Portugal, is the poem!

Hail, Portugal!
Our home you shall remain!
And ne’er forget the rain in Spain
Usually runs downhill and pools here.

Arise, Portugal!
We’ve done amazing things!
And had amazing kings!
But I can’t remember any of them right now

Oh, Portugal!
It’s like 1572!
Stay steadfast and true!
And one day your language will be spoken in Brazil! And that’s pretty cool right?

So it wasn’t so epic, I guess, as it was three stanzas. And it sounds way better in Portuguese. Lots more H’s.
